Creating a coastal community & lifestyle we love to call home

Long before St. James Plantation was the heart of the quintessential seatown of Southport, decades before ‘St. James’ became a thriving township, before the first legendary fairway was sculpted, this place was a vision, a dream. Homer Wright with partners, John Atkinson and developer Claude Smith began this labor of love in the 1980‘s. In 1991, award-winning St. James Plantation officially opened, and is now home to more than 4,500 property owners on 6,000 acres of breathtaking coastal landscape.

Incorporated as a town in 1999, St. James now has its own mayor, Fire Department and EMS. And, our community has a thriving and supportive Property Owners Association.

It was always about creating a place that was exciting but calming, a place where your family couldn’t wait to get to, a place that was awe-inspiring. But mostly St. James was just meant to be ‘home’.

Our story began with founder Homer Wright

Next generation of original partner's families at St. James Plantation

Now, the second generation of the original partners’ families help with the daily business affairs and long-term vision for St. James. They enjoy collaborating with founder, Wright, and community residents to imagine new ways to improve his grand vision.
